Fall & Winter Pittsburgh World Team Tennis Leagues Now Forming

I'm currently putting together a NTRP 4.0 WTT team for fall and winter play. We will be part of a league comprised of other 4.0 teams from Edgewood, NIT, Citiparks, Parkway, and other local clubs. I'm looking for male and female players with NTRP ratings between 3.5 and 4.0. For play at the local level, certified NTRP ratings aren't required, ie. you can rate yourself. A "4.0 team" means that the average NTRP rating of its top four players equals 4.0 or less.

If you are unfamiliar with the NTRP rating scale, details are found at: http://users.telerama.com/~johnv/tennis/tennis17.htm

NTRP 3.5 to 4.0 players generally possess "advanced intermediate" tennis skills.

Unlike USTA leagues, the WTT league doesn't require extensive travel or USTA membership. The only requirements are that you have a WTT membership ($15/yr) and be at least 18 years old. The $15 membership fee also gets you a T shirt, a national WTT newsletter, and discounts on tennis tournaments, movies, etc.

WTT matches are exciting and fast paced. If you aren't familiar with WTT scoring and match structure, details are found at: http://users.telerama.com/~johnv/tennis/wtt2.htm

Our team will consist of both "core" players who are able to make a strong commitment to participate in weekly matches as well as alternate players, who periodically fill in when a core player can't attend a match.

We are hoping to play outdoors for most of September and perhaps early October and then move indoors during the winter. Fees for indoor court time are currently being negotiated, but they should be very reasonable.

If you, or one of your tennis-playing friends, are interested in participating as a core or alternate player, please contact me ASAP via phone or email.

Also...

In addition to the 4.0 league, 3.5 and 4.5 leagues consisting of teams using the same self-rating system described for the 4.0 league, are being formed in the South Hills at Peters Township, Upper St. Clair, Glen Creek, Greentree, Western Area YMCA and Rolling Hills Clubs. A Citiparks-Eastern League consisting of teams from Citiparks, Parkway, NIT and Edgewood Tennis & Fitness is also being formed. If you would like more information or if you are interested in joining teams from any of these clubs or in these areas, please contact Bette Salmon at 412.244.4188 (W), 412.963.7615 (H) or bsalmon@usaor.net .

Thanks!
